Scarecrow's Gun in Wizard of Oz

In the Haunted Forest scene, the Scarecrow is clearly carrying a silver revolver. It seems completely out of character for a fantasy land, but it's there in the 1939 classic. Most viewers simply filter it out because a gun doesn't fit their mental model of the innocent, brainless Scarecrow.
