False Memories

Tom Hanks' Forrest Gump actually says, 'Mama always said, life *was* like a box of chocolates.' The accent makes it subtle, but the past tense is clear. However, the quote is almost always repeated in the present tense ('is') because it works better as a general aphorism. The present tense version ended up on all the merchandise, reinforcing the error.
